Some Examples of Successful Complex Systems

During the last 9 years, we created a number of complex database systems for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol, Vehicle Inspection, License and Weight, Capital Police and Fleet Services.

Our systems are used every day by hundreds of DPS employees.

Our software for dispatching officers, and managing calls for service, TLETS messages, and warrants is used in all DPS communications facilities.

Our Commercial Vehicle Inspection System (OASIS) is being used at DPS commercial inspection facilities on the Mexico border and in the major NAFTA corridors to identify unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers.

OASIS is an example of a complex database system - yet 4 developers created it in 3 months. The reason for the fast development of such a complex system - OASIS was assembled from high level parts that were customized by an experienced development team whose goal was to quickly deliver a high value system. And the results - When OASIS was tested, apprehensions of wanted persons immediately jumped from 2 per week to 9 per day.

We developed the systems used by DPS for managing traffic citations and warnings, collecting and reporting commercial accidents, managing the vehicle fleet, and collecting and reporting work measures. We also developed a number of decision support applications including:

  • An accident / DWI hot spot identification application that answers the questions "where do I need to patrol", and "how many tickets do I write at each spot to reduce the accident / DWI rate."

  • A racial profiling analysis application that was built to provide early identification of potential racial profiling problems, but showed the agency had no racial profiling liability.
